I lived in Alaska for three-and-a-half years, not in the Yukon, but in Southeast Alaska. I loved it. This is it:
Pretty, right? A rare sunny day in Ketchikan, Alaska.
I took this picture:
of Marvin McCloud. He’s an artist and jewelry-maker. You’d think, as an artist, he would be so kind as to attribute this picture he’s been using for the last 13+ years, as per our our agreement and lack of compensation. Le sigh. The dog, Bear, was not his. He was part wolf and HUGE. An absolute sweetheart with marvelous moral fiber. Ahem. The dog, that is.
This is Creek St:
It used to be a bunch of brothels, well into the 50’s, now it’s oodles of kitschy shops.
This is a section of Perseverance Trail. My. Favorite.
If you’re ever in Ketchikan, and have a few spare hours, do it.
I could go on. And I will. But not tonight. Guten nacht!
These pictures fill me with a longing to go there right now.
Your “The dog, that is” made me chuckle.
Oh, Deb. It’s amazing. If you can ever go, do. That post is far from complete, but I realized I could write a book, so I just sort of stopped, LOL.
What beautiful pictures! Makes me want to go visit Ketchikan!
Thank you! I can only claim credit for one. 🙂 It’s a great place to visit.
We lived near Anchorage for a few years and did a bit of travel around Alaska while we were there. Southeast AK was the one spot we did not get to (we even flew to Barrow!) and I still regret that. I don’t like cold weather or winter driving, but gosh! There are some days when I really miss that amazing scenery.
BTW–we drove through the Yukon on the way up to Alaska and when we moved away. Kluane Lake is the most beautiful place in the world. We took a detour on the way south so we could visit it again, and I know I will have to pay another visit someday!
I hope you get up there to see it. A cruise is one of the best ways 🙂
