O is for Opossums, Owls, and Orca

I love animals beginning with the letter O. I don’t know why. I didn’t even notice this trend until I started writing this.

In first grade we needed to write a report about an animal. Everyone wanted the opossum. The teacher’s daughter got it. Go figure. Anyway, we all thought they were really neat. I mean, they hung by their tails,

carried their babies on their backs,

and were so ugly they were cute.

I got elephants. I found out they were pretty neat too.

I love owls. I’m not sure when that love affair started, but I was a wee lass to be sure. I loved that the represented wisdom and intelligence. I loved my Quiz Kid owl calculator and math game.

I loved tootsie pops.

I loved that they could turn their heads almost all the way around.

When I was a teenager, exploring my Native American roots, I discovered it to be my spirit animal.

I wanted the orca to be my spirit animal, because it’s my favorite. But, you get what you get and you don’t get upset. I wanted to study them, in the wild, in the Straight of Juan de Fuca, with PhD after my name, forever and ever amen. That’s another story for another day. Orca are awesome,

powerful,

beautiful,

playful,

and serene.

I love lots of other animals, too. Cats of all shapes and sizes, wolves, dolphins (technically orca are dolphins, not whales, did ya know that? huh? did ya, did ya?), birds of prey, octopuses (O!), and many, many more.

Basically, I’m really just a huge animal-loving dork. I used to love them too much to eat them. I still love them that much, I just love me more. That’s yet another story for yet another day.

Note: I own none of the pictures and found them all via Google images. I’m quite tired and lazy tonight so I’m not hunting down the original URLs.

  1. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the
shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit
crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell
    someone!

What do you think?
